Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation

The Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation (RILSF) provides assistance to visually impaired persons in our Rhode Island communities.
The RILSF is composed of representatives from Lions clubs around Rhode Island. The assistance we provide can be financial, material, social and developmental.
The Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation was founded in 1961 as a charitable arm of the Lions Clubs International, District 42.
The Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation is a 501 C-3 non-profit organization.

Ken Barthelemy (of RILSF and the Scituate Lions club) organized the trip to the North Carolina Lions National VIP Fishing Tournament for 2 Rhode Island teams and a Connecticut team consisting of Visually Impaired fishermen (3 per team ) plus volunteer guides. The tournament was a big success for everyone.

The Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation held its 2nd Annual VIP Golf Tournament on October 25, 2025, at Top Golf in Cranston, RI. VIPS and sighted golfers could have breakfast, play golf, and participate in the raffle held.

Summer Camp Mauchatea 2025 was an amazing success! 34 campers enjoyed many activities including Canobie Lake Park, Spring Lake, kayaking, sports, swimming, dancing, and a traveling mini farm!

The RILSF and local RI Lions clubs helped with vision pre-screening of preschool, elementary, middle (7th grade), and high school students (9th grade) through out RI.
Over 37,280 students at 172 schools in RI were screened by the RI Lions Sight Foundation and local RI Lions clubs in the 2024-2025 school year. See details here.

Winter Camp Mauchatea was held January 18-20, 2025.
This year we met up and headed to Imperial Buffet for lunch and dessert. We then headed to the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg, MA!
All the campers had a blast with swimming, indoor/outdoor hot tubs in the snow, amazing water slides, ropes courses, rock climbing and of course BINGO! Campers ended the weekend at EP Bowling lanes. They can't wait for summer camp!!!

On May 16, 2024, over 30 Lions from various Rhode Island Lions Cubs, in addition to a North Smithfield High School student, packed about 16,000 pairs of eyeglasses to be sent to the New Jersey Lions Eye Glass Recycling Center. There the eyeglass lens powers are measured and then the eyeglasses are catalogued by lens power. They can be shipped to missions that provide eyecare for communities around the world that do not have good eye care.
Thank you to the Sunnyside Restaurant for letting the RILSF use their space for this event and their help with the shipping.
